Update to Texas LPC Changes as of 9/9/20

BHEC Logo.png

We’re now in September, and under the Texas Behavior Health Executive Council (BHEC). To learn more click the link to go to the homepage. As for LPCs specifically, here is the link to the current LPC Page. If you try to go to the old webpage on the HHSC website, you won’t find anything. All information now flows through the BHEC website.

Most things remain similar- you can check out the new forms HERE.

If you are wanting to renew your license online, you can now go HERE.

Another important change effective September 1st, 2020, is information related to 22 TAC §884.31b regarding “Notice to the Public of Complaint Process”. Since we are now under BHEC, the following notice will have to be provided to clients by any of the following ways:

  • on a registration form, application, written contract for services, or other intake paperwork required by licensees prior to delivering services.

  • on a sign prominently displayed in the licensee’s place of business or location where services are delivered. The sign must be printed on paper of no less than 8-1/2 by 11 inches in size.

  • in a prominent and easily accessible location on the licensee’s website.

  • in a bill for services.

The notice MUST include the Council’s name, mailing address, and telephone number, as well as the following statement:

The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council investigates and prosecutes professional misconduct committed by marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, psychologists, psychological associates, social workers, and licensed specialists in school psychology. Although not every complaint against or dispute with a licensee involves professional misconduct, the Executive Council will provide you with information about how to file a complaint. Please call 1-800-821-3205 for more information.

Finally, because of some delays in reviewing the rule changes, the LPC Board still needs to adopt the rules. It appears we will not be switching to the use of LPC Associate rather than LPC Intern until October 1st. As soon as I learn of confirmation, I will make sure to post updates.
